From the cab of his backhoe, Ranger equipment operator Nicolas Gullion doesn’t see acre upon acre of shapeless dirt.
As he scoops another bucketful and swivels to a waiting truck, he sees a large, tranquil lake surrounded by beautiful homes in the new Isles of Wellington subdivision in Palm Beach County.
That vision, shared by the entire crew, becomes clearer every day as Ranger makes good progress on the 1.2 million-c.y. earthmoving project for owner/general contractor Lennar Homes.
Ranger began the work in April and should be finished within a year. The job includes excavating 11 lakes and filling/grading eight building pods, which will eventually contain more than 700 homes.
Ranger has finished two of the pods, including homesites, and has received a separate contract to construct roads for the pods. Additional roads and home sites will be built as each plat is developed, with build-out expected by mid-2002.
